It seems once again the people liked the book

Across The Pond by Storyheart is delightful quick read filled with the budding young love of two teenagers Brit and Fred. Fred (Fredrick) travels across from England to the United States to stay with friends of his parents Phil and Julie and their young daughter Brit while his parents enjoyed a dream vacation to Australia that they had won in a contest. In his short stay in New York Fred becomes the hero not only to the young Brit but also to her parents and the parents of Brits friends who have been injured by the cad Steve Harris who thinks he can do anything he wants to girls and get away with it. The story is filled with the love of Baseball, language lessons, sightseeing and intrigue as well as a few giggles thrown in. I found myself joyous when the CAD gets his comeuppance and empathized with all the young girls in the story. As an advanced reader I was wishing for a bit more character development but then realized that this is a book for younger readers and one they will love. It is not too long like a novel would be so it's one they will stick with to the end and enjoy every minute. I give it thumbs up!


Status:
I am a little behind with all the blog and web page catching up I have to do, but hope to get some of that work back on line tomorrow. Book web pages really needs to be updated, links for the reviews and interviews added from the virtual tour and some more information including the details of my new radio show added.

Across the Pond is a beautifully written book about the young love in all its innocence. The storyline illustrates the subtle differences in culture between America and England in many ways, especially language. Showing the different words and the meanings they have in each country is a wonderful way to show cultural differences that could easily be misunderstood. For example "nappy means diapers" and "chips means fries". Using the game of baseball, Storyheart, further brings home cultural differences, and the confusion that can center around the importance of different things to different people.

A beautifully written and heartwarming book about the thrill of young love. I highly recommend this book to teen readers but it also is a fun book for the young at heart regardless of their age.

Every day I do a search through Google to see what if anything new has been picked up or posted about me or my book. It amazes me sometimes where you see your book mentioned. Today for instance I found mention of it at a site for Japanese Hotels, don’t ask me how but Goggle found it there.

I am trying to organize my days a little better knowing that I will not be allowed back at work after my back operation until the end of March. It turned out I did too much over the weekend and suffered yesterday and last night. Now I am trying to inter-mix work, I can dial in for meetings and do a few online items, with rest and book stuff. If I get the balance right I should enable myself to gradually improve without totally climbing the wall with boredom.

A little like after the last night of a long running show, after the virtual tour what next?

Well I’m trying to keep those books and interviews going, though the foot of snow we had in CT today stopped any trip to the post office. Also I am now going into the world of Blog Radio.

Many who have read my blogs before or heard my radio interviews know I love doing radio or TV. So I thought why not have my own show?

So I am starting “A BOOK AND A CHAT” my first broadcast will be at 11am EST on Saturday March 7th, with fellow author Kim Smith. Now during my virtual tour I was lucky enough to appear on Kims show, though both of us at the time were not in the best of health. So for my first show I thought it would be nice to have Kim as my first guest.

Where I am trying to make my show different is to not just have authors going on about their books, but also invite those people who create their won blogs, the young ladies (and men) who have blogs and write about books on an almost daily basis. I think it will be interesting to have their views on some of the new books. Mainly though I want it to be a friendly sit down chat, almost over a cup of tea or coffee and more lighthearted than some of the book radio blogs one can listen to.

Today I followed a couple of people who started their virtual tours, adding comments wherever I could, it all helps you know.

A new month, and the end of my virtual tour. We’ll see what happens from now on.

I feel very lucky to have fallen in with pumpupyourbookpromotion.com and have been lucky enough to become part of the yahoo group. This means that I will be able to visit other author’s blog trips and say hi etc as people did for my virtual tour.

I see one of the ladies Morgan Mandel started her virtual radio show with a test tonight which I just about caught the same as I have done, so that will only add to the offerings for new writers. There are many shows and they will I’m sure be slightly different, yet be great from authors.

Today did not go bye without some more events for myself and my book call it young adult romance call it what ever you like, but people seem to like it so let’s just say it’s a fun book for all.

I managed to do my karoke show last night all sorts of people helped and I did really not have to lift anything but standing/sitting for 5 hrs took its toll on the back etc. Also my voice having not been used for 3 weeks was not up to start with. I will never be able to go back to my rugby club if they find out I was in a bar for 5hrs and just drank tea lol. I tool clothes and tablets along as if it got too bad I was right next to a motel and could have stayed there the night.

So what about today, well yesterday and today.

Not only that but I actually received a face book message from a person I used to wok with saying they had read about me in the Sunday Times.

I had 5 more people who we are sending copies of the book to for reviews on blog sites, one of which is being sent to Vietnam. I was also told that one blogger actually saw my book ON SALE on target. Or course we check our local Target and so no sign of it, but I hope she will take a photo of it on sale on her Target, Nebraska.

This book is pretty darn cute!
This is a nice little story about Fred, a british fifteen year old who has to go to USA to stay with some friends, Phil and Julie, of his dad because his parents are going elewhere on a trip they won.
Phil and Julie are such nice folks and they happen to have a hottie (Fred's words hehe) of a daughter.
Fred goes through quite a few problems on his trip to America. He has to work on a project, writing down the differences between the two languages, an evil boy who seems to have done something mean to someone, and a few other things that you'll find out once you read the book. :D
I thought this book was cute but I have to be honest and say I found the fact that Fred and Brittany loved each other after only three days, somewhat silly. I also was not a fan of the fact that it was so fast paced with not many details, the story was just kind of rushed. This book is aimed at Young Adults, being a young adult, I find that younger people would like it WAY more. It is cute, but not really young adult-ish. Even though I had a few issues with the story, I still found it to be really adorable. I can see this as a very enjoyable movie to watch so I recommend reading it, especially if you're 10+. So read this 114 paged story full of cuteness, baseball, and love all wrapped into one little book. :)

Ok, so this may be dubbed as a "young adult" romance novel, but I, at 34, gobbled it up and loved it! I simply adored the characters of 15 year old English born Fred, Brittany, the daughter of the couple he is staying with while visiting in America, as well as the couple themselves, Phil and Julie. The author did a phenomenal job of bringing each and every one to life ,through descriptions, actions and dialog.

This is a delightful story of acceptance, standing up for what is right, selflessness and first love. I can honestly say that I cannot think of a single thing that I did not like about Across the Pond. As an extra added piece of fun (and education) Fred must work on a school project, while in America, listing some of the language differences he comes across in everyday conversation. I found this to be quite interesting. Though I have heard some of the terms, several were new to me and fun to learn.

Fred quickly becomes Brit's Knight, helping her work through emotions and bringing justice, for her, for a past trauma. Fred is a very kind, generous and admirable charater that the reader falls in love with, from the very beginning. There is never a lull in the story and at the end, I was left wanting more! Perhaps an additional story will come about with Brit visiting Fred in England?! *hint hint, Mr Eva, lol!

Though geared toward young adult, I honestly believe this is a marvelous story for any age. It is sure to bring a smile to the face and a warmth to the heart.

This story was very beautifully written. The language is descriptive enough that you can imagine yourself in the midst of the story. Although at times it seems the author loses track of the time continuum, the story manages to maintain its integrity as a wonderful tale of young love. A teenage boy who is shipped "Across The Pond" against his will who finds that the whole experience is not so bad after all. He quickly discovers that Americans, even with their "odd" version of English, are a very fun and fun-loving people. It was nice to read a story about just two regular kids with regular every day and current "kid" problems. Thank you for allowing me to preview this book. I spent a wonderful hour and half immersed in the teenage world of American Tourism and young love.

I started working on my blog radio producing a practice blog today, the blog radio is now being called “Let’s Chat About It”. I need to practice a little more before becoming a stop for virtual tours.

When is English, not English? … When it’s American by Barry Eva

Playwright George Bernard Shaw claimed that " England and America are two countries divided by a common language."

In England what is called crisps, in the US they are chips. What English call chips, Americans call fries. So how come what English call Fish and Chips in America is not fish with a pack of Pringles?

In my young adult fiction book “Across the Pond” the hero Fred Squire runs into more than his fair share of problems. Not only is he sent to friends in America but has to complete a boring English project about the language differences between the two countries as well.

Differences ranging from parts of a car through locations to various types of food soon have Fred scratching his head is disbelief. Quite common sayings in the English language have a total different meaning in the US and visor versa.

Add to that a young romance, a local bully, and a baseball worth a small fortune make Fred’s adventures “across the pond” and roller coaster adventure.

Though written for a young adult market, it is being enjoyed by all ages.

Across the Pond is a short, fun read. I liked Fred's character for the most part and enjoyed the mishaps he found himself in due to the language "barriers." His project was fun and I really liked seeing the various words and their meanings between the U.S. and England. It was exciting to see that I knew most of them as well!!

Reading Across the Pond brought me back to my teenage years. Oh the feeling of young love. First love. This book has a great mix of romance, teen drama and baseball. It was interesting to see the differences between the languages separated by "the pond" as well. I can't wait to read the sequel on the other side of the pond. My teenage daughter will love to read this as well even though at times I wish the writer had gone more into depth and dragged the suspense out a little longer.

I wondered what reviews Roxanne had done before on Amazon, as one does to see if perhaps she normally gave three stars. The only other review was for

The last week of what has been a wonderful experience meeting so many interesting people, reviews and interviews along the way. Learning things myself, as well meeting some fascinating people along the way.

Across the Pond is a short, fun read. I liked Fred's character for the most part and enjoyed the mishaps he found himself in due to the language "barriers." His project was fun and I really liked seeing the various words and their meanings between the U.S. and England. It was exciting to see that I knew most of them as well!!

To me it is amazing that since the book came out in October I have over 50 reviews, all of which are GOOD reviews. At AMAZON ALONE I now have “43” wonderful reviews. That does not count special sites, awards etc.

When Fred is sent to America to stay with friends of his family he doesn't know what is in store for him. He meets a girl name Brittany, her friends, and also a few enemies along the way. He also finds out about American baseball. What could be better!

This is a wonderful book about youth, teenage romance, baseball, and so much more. It is a book geared to young adults but I really enjoyed reading it. Check it out for yourself, it's a great read!


A Heartfelt Summer Roamance, February 22, 2009

Across the Pond is a fun, heartfelt summer romance between English Fred and American Brittany.
The story is fast paced and the characters are well defined.
The story has a lot of substance and leaves ends open for more.
I especially liked the parts where Brit confided in Fred about her troubles with the bully Stefan, and the part about the baseball. Fred definitely knew the way to a girls heart and how to make a lasting impression.
I hope that Storyheart continues with more.

I am so so please that there are so many people enjoying the book it means so much to me.!

Review: Across The Pond by Storyheart
Across The Pond is a YA novel by Storyheart that sees the main character, Fred shipped 'across the pond' to stay with family friends while his parents go on holiday. While there, Fred falls for Brit, who he is staying with. Together they get up to lots of fun in the USA, all while Fred is dutifully noting the differences in culture and language between their two countries for a school project.

It was a sweet, fun read. The relationship between Fred and Brit seemed genuine and was lovely to read about. I found myself finishing each chapter with a big grin on my face!

After a while I began to find the constant pointing out of word differences a little tedious (maybe it's because I'm Australian!) but all in all I had a great time reading Across The Pond and look forward to future adventures with Fred and Brit!

(This interesting as Lisa is from Australia where many of the words are the same as in English unlike in the US where this comparison has proved very popular… Storyheart)

I rate Across The Pond 3.5/5 stars :) You can get it on amazon here and can also check out my interview with the author here. If you're looking to learn a bit about another culture, or just want a fun with read with a bit of romance, go check it out!








I then stopped off at Amazon and low and behold I have another TWO five star reviews.

Again different parts of the book were picked up and people of all ages enjoyed the story.

I am much older than the audience intented for this book but I do have three teenage boys. Although they are not interested in romance books, I did buy this book for my 16 year old niece. Teenage romance is such a sweet thing and the author did an amazing job capturing the innocence of what teenage love really is. I read this book as well and remembered back to memories of my teenage years. I recommend this book for all teenagers, pre-teens and parents as well.

Storyheart really has a knack for description. From page 1, I found myself drawn into his world which is described lucidly, but without going into too much detail as to get boring. I have read many of those books that go overboard, but Storyheart got it just right.

I felt like I was right alongside Fred for his ride in America. Fred himself is a fun character, and quite observant, and brought England to America in his mind, especially for an American reader like me.

Across the Pond is fun, and I recommend it heartily.

If you are looking for something to do with your daughter, this is it. This was one of the most heartfelt books I have read in a long time. It took me back to my teenage years. My daughter would talk constantly about Btit and Fred as if they were her friends. Fred traveled here to stay with family friends while his parents were on vacation. These family friends had Brit. I now knew her intrigue. So,I had to read it myself. It is the perfect story of travel, love and friendship.

Again this review shows the versatility and age variance that people find within the book.

While I am quite a bit older than the target audience of this book, I still enjoy reading many books from my youth and I like to read books that I could recommend to either my pre-teen nephew or my teenage daughter. Across the Pond is a book that I could recommend to both. The characters are very "real" and the story grabs you. It doesn't seem to be geared to one gender over the other. I could see both my nephew and my daughter enjoying it equally.

One thing I have noticed while doing this virtual tour is the number of people who have really interesting blogs. Any book that comers out so many people read it and review it, guests are invited questions asked and information given.

Though these blog sites might not have thousands of readers, each one is worth a stop, and a read. The future of creative journalism is in good hands.

The back surgery is starting to show the bruising a little more and the numbness is turning into more pain. I am just not sure which is worse.
I want to get better and push myself way to hard and then of course suffer.

This is a fun group of people whom I worked with in my previous book release.

During this time however I went into hospital having an operation on my back. The actual op time was nearer 7hrs than the guessed 4/5hrs as they found more damage than at first expected. I came home on Friday 13th still however able to do my radio interview all be it in a slightly shaky voice

It is a 12/14minute spot where an Author reads and extract from their own book. It is an enjoyable snipped of my book which I know several have already made a comment re their enjoyment of the radio show,

All in all despite the trip to the hospital and the being now in pain for the next few weeks everything has been going well.

Several smaller blogs have also added reviews and contests all of which is helping the word be shared.

Interestingly one review did mention the point that perhaps the females in the story.

“Angel and Brit both acted a lot alike, and not in a good way. Under emotional duress, they both fell apart and leaned on Fred and that really quite annoyed me. These girls were so NOT strong characters”

This is actually very good and helpful feedback, and points out the improvements I can try and make in the next book. Though the overall review at http://lainahastoomuchsparetime.blogspot.com/ did state:

Conclusion: It's a nice, short read, cute and worth reading

It all helps, and I’m very grateful for any feed back I receive.

So Different, Yet So Similar, February 11, 2009

In "Across the Pond" Storyheart brings us a story of young romance, new adventures, and cultural change.

When 14 year old Fred's parents win a trip for two to Australia, Fred has to choose between spending several weeks with his grandparents in Scotland, or spending the time with his parents friend Phil from "across the pond" in the United States. Although he's not happy with the choices, Fred decides to visit the States, and that starts a time of change and adventure with young Fred.

Soon after arriving in the U. S., Fred meets a young girl named Brittany, and that changes his attitude about the whole visit. He meets many new friends, and in the end has such a good time that he regrets having to return to England, and to leave his friends behind.

This was a fun book, and an easy read. Storyheart draws on many of his own experiences from when he moved from England to the United States, bringing firs hand knowledge of the cultural differences between the two countries. It was a good book, and well worth reading.

Sweet Teenage Romance, February 13, 2009

I hesitate calling any book sweet, because that usually turns off potential readers, but I can't think of a better word for this great read. Whether it gets lumped up as a teenage romance, feel good story, or a coming of age book, it shines in each category.

What I liked about this read was the fact that I wasn't ever ahead of the author. Too often authors choose predictable plots or story lines and you can figure out what is going to happen before you turn the page. That wasn't the case here and I was continually surprised by the outcomes and dilemmas the author chose to put her characters through.

I will definitely be sharing this story with several young ladies I know who are always looking for good, wholesome reads.

Fred Squire is not expecting anything special to happen to him during his vacation to the states. He is staying with his parents’ old friends and their daughter, Brittany who is about 14; Fred’s age. His vacation soon grows more interesting as Fred and Brittany become fast friends and are inseparable. Fred soon encounters the problems of being a British boy in America. Struggling to tell the differences in the languages, he records each thing he learns for a school project. But when Fred continually has close calls with the local bully, Steve Harris, and Brit’s too-flirty friend Angel, he sinks deeper into the drama. Brit and Fred’s relationship blossoms regardless of what is happening around them and he soon thinks that nothing bigger can happen, but that’s before he catches a baseball worth thousands of dollars at a baseball game. Fred may be able to avoid flirty girls, fend off a heartless bully, and steer away from scammers out to get the baseball, but there is one thing he knows he cannot stop; having to travel back “across the pond” to his home.
Barry Storyheart did a fabulous job of describing every character and point of view. As soon as I began:”Across the Pond”, I couldn’t set it down. This love story is one of the best I’ve read and I savored every detail I learned about young couple, Fred and Brit. The author threw in details about the difference in American words and British words like a cart in America is a trolley in England. This made it interesting for me to learn about how really different our languages are. “Across the Pond” is a great read and I would recommend it to all young adult readers who like a sweet love story
"Across the Pond" contains some mild language and brief sexual comments.

Overall, I have to say that I enjoyed Across the Pond. A strong cast of characters, an interesting plot, some great baseball, and a deep secret all come together for an engaging and fun read.
