Literary Saturday - what is "Christian Literature"?

Normally I blog on a Saturday about that days radio guest, however today I did not have a radio show. The reason being this morning I was a guest speaker/panelist at a Connecticut Authors and Publishers (CAPA) event.

As stated on the program...

"During the first several minutes of the program, each panelist will share a brief story of an appearance to promote their book. Following this first segment, a Question & Answer period will follow, where each panelist can attempt to provide his or her "best answer" to the questions posed by the audience, based on their experience. The venues may include libraries, bookstores, other book sale venues, television and radio."

My chat and answers went down really well with promoting as I always do the use of the internet for publicity and just getting your name out there. Of course I mentioned my favorite subject the fantastic YA Bloggers that are out there, or as I call them the "Sham Wow" of YA literature.

One question I was asked, and it has been asked before is if my book is a "Christian Book?"

What are Christian books, Christian Authors etc, what does it mean?

I mean to say.. ones mans Christianity is another mans Judaism. Words like bloody and hell are in the Bible, yet used as "Bloody Hell" which is a common saying in England, might be classed as bad langauge.

Some reviewers/readers have said great for teens teen and good "Christian Book" others have said some bad language...(not sure where unless we are talking about "bloody hell")

Basically I'm lost. I mean what about all the "begating" in the bible, and after all were not Adam and Eve were the first sex experts?

Any way I think the book might be classed as a good Christian book, but then I could have just been agreeing to sell copies and possibly be a guest speaker at an event or two.

So if anybody could explain what "Christian Literature" is, not counting the monthly news letter from your local church (at least in England), I'd be very glad.

This by the way is my church from back home in England. St Marys (East Barnet) built in 1080... yes that old, and still has many parts (walls doors, arches etc) from the original Norman building. I was christened, sang in the choir and had one wedding ceremony there.

A Book and a Chat with... ME!

THE MANY SIDES OT BARRY EVA (STORYHEART)

On today's "Book and a Chat" my very special guest is... "well ME."

Unfortunately my planned guest David Liss was not able to make today's show, so I chatted on my own for thirty minutes about books, selling, marketing, future guests, reviews, new pets and anything else I could think to chat about.

Check out today's program and see how I did.

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Across-the-Pond

or

http://acrossthepond-storyheart.blogspot.com

After the show I was checking a few locations and found a fresh "FIVE STAR" review at Amazon.

One of those items that keeps us authors going.

5 stars The Epitome of a Sweet and Modern Teenage Relationship, July 10, 2009

Young Adult/Romance is one of my favorite genres, just because I love to fantasize and dream of something like "Across the Pond" by Storyheart. I found it hilarious within the first few pages, upon discovering the nickname "Brit," and my chest tightened when I neared the end of this book (which i won't reveal because I know that I hate spoilers... and it's not exactly unexpected, either)
This book is a short, sweet read with an almost modern-fairy tale like romance. I would be able to read it over and over again without tiring of it (i've read it twice already)and I believe that Brit and Fred (Brittany and Frederick) are a lovely couple and the epitome of teen romance.
As an American, it was entertaining when I read about Fred's troubles with the food. Who would've thought that I would laugh out loud just because of someone's British reaction to "beagles (bagels)" and blueberries?
I recommend this book to anybody who is a fan of young romance and a sweet tale.

Thank you
Barry (Storyheart)

IMPROVE YOUR BLOG AND BLOGGING

April saw the start of Darren Rowse’s “31 Day Challenge to Build a Better Blog.”

http://www.problogger.net/

With the huge increase use of blogging many of my writer friends have started following this free course. In fact there are almost 10,000 people following this challenge.

Even on day two of the free challenge I have been working on... and I hope improving my blog.

The cut back on advertising and the increase of blogging, twittering etc has lead to more and more publishers and agents are looking to use the internet to policies an author or a book.

This also relates to pod casts (internet radio). Only yesterday I received a request from a publicist asking if four of her authors could be a guest on my radio show “A BOOK AND A CHAT”.

As I’ve said on many interviews, radio shows and for anybody else who will listen.

THE INTERNET IS THE WAY FORWARD FOR AUTHORS!

UP AND COMING EVENTS:

Saturday April 11th at 11am EST - “A BOOK AND A CHAT”

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Across-the-Pond

My guest is multi award winning author Karen White who is on her virtual book tour this month with a fascinating novel “THE LOST HOURS”

ACROSS THE POND REACHES NEW LEVELS AT AMAZON - Storyheart

Today I reached a new level at Amazon. That is receiving my

“SIXTIETH REVIEW”

since the book came out in October 2008.

I know, I may have said this in a blogs in the past, but these comments coming from people who have read the book, mean more to me than if I was signed up by some major publisher.

Of course I’d love to have more people read the book, and more people enjoy the book. I’d really love a phone call from

Asking if my book could be used or the next “High School Musical” production.

Oh well one can dream, though I’ve actually had a couple of reviews stating they could see “Across the Pond” as a film.

Todays number 60 was another 4 star review, and included.

This was an adorable young love story about Fred from England, who is sort of forced to go visit his parents' friends in America. What he doesn't know awaits him "across the pond" is their hottie daughter, Brittany, whom Fred instantly falls in love with. Add in all kinds of language problems, a bully who thinks taking advantage of young girls is fun, and the sport of baseball, and you have a love story as ageless as time itself.

Across the Pond by Storyheart: Feb 24th day 17 of my “Virtual Book Tour”

Across the Pond by Storyheart: Feb 24th day 17 of my “Virtual Book Tour”

Two really good stops today with some really fun reading. Some up to date news, and interview or two and a fresh review of my young adult fiction book Across the Pond

Finally I had the 22 staples out of my back from the Op which took place almost 2 weeks ago, so I can sit slightly more comfortable while typing this blog. At least that is what it is in theory; in fact it’s bloody killing me!

February 24th Day 17 – Across the Pond by Storyheart

A couple of great stops today not the normal blog stops, you must visit these two sites and have a laugh as I did writing the blogs. I’m sure you will enjoy them.

Firstly a stop at today was “

A book trivia interview at As the Page Turn

http://asthepagesturn.wordpress.com/2009/02/24/book-trivia-interview-with-young-adult-romance-author-barry-eva-aka-storyheart/#comment-289

It was really fun having such interesting questions to answer and I hope they bring a smile to your face as they did mine.

Second Stop was back at “THE PLOT”

http://theplotline.wordpress.com/2009/02/24/interview-with-fred-squire-from-across-the-pond-by-barry-eva/#comment-621

This was something different; I had to interview one of the characters of the book and of course chose Fred. The great rapport we had between Fred and myself I hope came over in the interview. ;)

Third Stop was Shooting Star Magazine

http://shootingstarsmag.blogspot.com/2009/02/across-pond-review-q.html

The interview with Lauren proved so much fun she actually had to trim the interview down as it went on way too long. Please stop and pay a visit and enjoy our chat

Across the Pond is a short, fun read. I liked Fred's character for the most part and enjoyed the mishaps he found himself in due to the language "barriers." His project was fun and I really liked seeing the various words and their meanings between the U.S. and England. It was exciting to see that I knew most of them as well!!

REVIEWS”

I got a three star review at Amazon, my very first review under 4 stars, yet the person who did the review really liked the book…

Great mix of teenage love and baseball, February 24, 2009
By Roxanne Green - See all my reviews

Reading Across the Pond brought me back to my teenage years. Oh the feeling of young love. First love. This book has a great mix of romance, teen drama and baseball. It was interesting to see the differences between the languages separated by "the pond" as well. I can't wait to read the sequel on the other side of the pond. My teenage daughter will love to read this as well even though at times I wish the writer had gone more into depth and dragged the suspense out a little longer.

I wondered what reviews Roxanne had done before on Amazon, as one does to see if perhaps she normally gave three stars. The only other review was for

VEET Facial Wax Strips: 20 Count

Best Ever Wax Strips

For which she gave 5 stars. Lol

Whatever it seems she still enjoyed the book and I hope her teenage daughter will enjoy the book as well.

This Week’s Stops:

Across the Pond – Feb 3rd Virtual Book Tour Day 2

Across the Pond – Feb 3rd Virtual Book Tour Day 2

Tuesday and the second day of my virtual book tour for me Storyheart, and my young adult romance novel Across the Pond.

The day started off with a wonderful review from Writers in the Sky which I will post on a separate blog.

Today’s Tour Stop:

Feb. 3 – Today’s Author on Blog Talk Radio (podcast) http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Circle-Of-Seven/2009/01/16/Todays-Author

Café of Dreams (book review) www.cafeofdreams.blogspot.com

The radio blog was good fun; I always enjoy chatting to people.
At Café of Dreams I received a wonderful review.

http://www.cafeofdreams.blogspot.com/

Ok, so this may be dubbed as a "young adult" romance novel, but I, at 34, gobbled it up and loved it! I simply adored the characters of 15 year old English born Fred, Brittany, the daughter of the couple he is staying with while visiting in America, as well as the couple themselves, Phil and Julie. The author did a phenomenal job of bringing each and every one to life, through descriptions, actions and dialog.

This is a delightful story of acceptance; standing up for what is right, selflessness and first love. I can honestly say that I cannot think of a single thing that I did not like about Across the Pond. As an extra added piece of fun (and education) Fred must work on a school project, while in America, listing some of the language differences he comes across in everyday conversation. I found this to be quite interesting. Though I have heard some of the terms, several were new to me and fun to learn.

Fred quickly becomes Brit's Knight, helping her work through emotions and bringing justice, for her, for a past trauma. Fred is a very kind, generous and admirable character that the reader falls in love with, from the very beginning. There is never a lull in the story and at the end, I was left wanting more! Perhaps an additional story will come about with Brit visiting Fred in England?! *hint hint, Mr Eva, lol!

Though geared toward young adult, I honestly believe this is a marvelous story for any age. It is sure to bring a smile to the face and a warmth to the heart.

*overall rating 4.5/5

I also received another 5 star review at Amazon:

***** Great Read, Fun Journey February 2 2009
Jenifer S (Ball Ground, GA, USA
This was such a fun book to read. The main character, Fred, has all kinds of adventures as he tries to fit into a new culture. His parents win a 2 week trip to Australia and Fred goes to stay with friends of theirs. He soon falls for a beautiful girl, Brit. Watching Fred maneuvers a new relationship and a new culture makes this book so interesting and amusing. If you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a foreign country, you will love this book. It has humor, romance and may even teach you a thing or too about the differences between England and America. This book will appeal to young adults and adults alike. I thoroughly enjoy reading about what happened "across the pond."

All in all another really good day for my Storyheart and my book Across the Pond
