A Book and a Chat… the show that nearly never happened

Saturday as many of you know is my Book and a Chat Radio Show. Normally it starts at 11:00 and I check about ten minutes before to make sure connections, microphone phone etc is working correctly. The you as the host dial into Blogtalk radio, set up your switchboard and wait for your guest or anybody else who wants to chat to arrive.

This morning however, when you attempted to open the switchboard you received an error message. I attempted to get to the switchboard, but no matter what I attempted this part of Blogtalk was not working. That meant that though my guest dialed in I was unable to see her or open a microphone for her to join the chat show. I could not control, open, play the music nothing. I even sang the closing music...

So I tried to chat for the thirty minutes about my guest, my book "Across the Pond" and YA Blogging. I had no idea what was going on and after, I could not even check or listen to the show.

Finally seven hours later the problem was fixed. I knew this as suddenly I received a message from my guest saying she was there.

The show is also finally now available for people to listen to.

So check the show out, listen as I try to cover 30 minutes about my planned guest, my book, reviews, have my rant about YA bloggers and even sing the closing music.

Give it a listen and let me know what you think

A BOOK AND A CHAT BLOG RADIO SHOW

I have been doing my Blog Radio show since February. Originally I was doing one show a week on a Saturday, the theme was to be two people chatting over a cup of tea, rather than like some other writers/book programs which sometimes get a little errrr bookish.

Okay I like to have fun, have a laugh, make the guest feel at home. I also like to try and get some of the YA blogger as guests rather than just authors. So the shows started and after just a couple I found i was really into the swing of things. I have managed to even do a few shows just on my own, when guests have not turned up for one reason or another.

Very soon I found I was being asked to host all sorts of guests, agents, publishers and authors all contacted me loving the informal format. I have been able to talk about subject ranging from abuse and religion to the theater and humor.

Very quickly I went to two shows a week and have had to turn people away already being booked up until November. And am having to squeeze some guests into one of specials. The next week is a prime example with shows Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and again the next Saturday.

I have received some wonderful emails of thanks and it seems that everybody even those who start off like a nervous wreck love the format and the way the show goes.

So if you want to spend 30 minutes listening to something light, entertaining and enjoyable, why not try

A BOOK AND A CHAT Blog talk radio show.

Radio Guest Show Trials

THE MANY SIDES OT BARRY EVA (STORYHEART)

Some of the issues one comes up against in doing blog radio programs happened to me yesterday. I don't normally do a show on a Thursday night, however owing to being part of a panel at a writers group meeting on Saturday I had booked an author for last night. The show as normal for my mid-week show was due to start at 6:30pm EST.
Just before 6pm I was checking my guest blog and web site to glean some useful information to use for chatting, when I noticed they had posted that the show was at 6:30 CST not EST. I contacted the agent of the author, and received confirmation that the guest now knew it was 6:30EST. This fact was confirmed by an update on the authors site.

Show time came and not sign of my guest, they had written about always being late for events, so I started the show and chatted about the guest. Five minutes went by still no sign. So as in past "no show" shows I carried on talking about various issues for the remaining thirty minutes.

I had a weird feeling that despite correcting the blog and the time, that my guest would still show up at 7:30 my time. So I opened a small 5min show and low and behold turn up they did.

Needles to say I have since received an apology for what the author sates her "blond" moment. Believe me it actually worse than that. When I cam to check out my thirty minute solo show I found that one of the kids gad used or played with my headphones and turned of the microphone, so I had thirty minutes of dead air. Which needless to say has since been deleted.

Just a little issue one sometimes has with radio shows.

Thank you

Views, Reviews and Weird News

So what have I got to offer you in this weeks "Views, Reviews and Weird News?

Firstly my book is now available at Book Stores!

I've received some heartwarming views and reviews from readers and have some classic weird news to share.

VIEWS:

"Across the Pond was an amazing book that I imagine all teens would want to read. I was wondering if you would consider writing a second part all about Brits journey to England. I would almost bet that if you continued on with this as a series you could have the same effect as the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. Also I was wondering what your radio show is about. Thanks for letting me review your book."

"Teenagers will adore this little gem which promises to hold your attention throughout. It is light-hearted yet with undertones of passion."

REVIEWS:

I have not only reached the grand total of "NINETY" reviews at Amazon during this last week, but also have several fantastic reviews on other sites.

WEIRD NEWS:

This weeks we have some classic weird news

Bride's bouquet brings down plane

The traditional throwing of a bride's bouquet for luck ended in disaster at an Italian wedding when the flowers caused a plane to crash.

The bride and groom had hired a small plane to fly past and throw the bouquet to a line of women guests, Corriere della Sera reported.
However, the flowers were sucked into the plane's engine causing it to catch fire and explode.
The aircraft plunged into a hostel. One passenger on the plane was badly hurt.
But about 50 people who had been in the hostel escaped unscathed, as did the pilot.

Entangled

The incident happened at Montioni park in Suvereto, near Livorno, where the wedding reception was being held, Corriere della Sera said.
A passenger on the aircraft, named as Isidoro Pensieri, 44, had the job of throwing the bouquet as pilot Luciano Nannelli flew past.
It is believed the bunch of flowers became entangled as it was thrown, and was sucked into one of the engines.
Ms Pensieri suffered multiple fractures and a head injury. She was taken to hospital in Grosseto by helicopter and then transferred to another in Pisa, Italian media reported.

A Few Days Off and a Great Review

I am having a few days off from blogging, only because I will be appearing at the Submarine Festival at Groton CT for the next couple of days. It will be my first big event and I am looking forward to announcing to all colonials on July 4th that the English are back. Well my book is *grin*.

This also means I will not be hosting Saturdays Book and a Chat Radio Show.
I am pretty book for guests until about mid September but am always on the look out for anybody who wants to have a chat on a Tuesday or Saturday. I am also looking for bloggers who would like to be interviewed for my Monday Special Guest spot. If so please let me know via comment or email.

I received what I take as a special review today (taking my total at Amazon up to 86)
his was from one of the TOP 50 REVIEWERS at AMAZON. So am am feeling just a little more proud than normal.

5 stars A lovely teen romance that will stir the hearts of people beyond their teens, Charles Ashbacher
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)

This is an excellent romance for teens, even though I am decades beyond the days when the first digit of my age was a one; I was so hooked on the story that I completed it within four hours of receiving it. Fifteen-year-old Frederick (Fred) Squire is a British lad whose parents are taking off to Australia to enjoy a vacation. Fred is spending that time with an American family, a prospect he questions until he meets their daughter Brittany. It is close to teen love at first sight and that begins an adventure having many aspects as Fred struggles to learn American ways. One of his problems is the terminology, for example to him the back of a car is a "boot" rather than the "trunk."
The greatest problems are his relationships with others and dealing with the local bully, a thug named Steve Harris, a boy whose acts include being a serial sexual harasser. Brittany is one of Steve's victims, so she is terrified of him, a problem that Fred helps calm, although calm does not describe the action between Fred and Steve. In true white knight fashion, Fred physically faces Steve down in a manner that would have made the knights of the ancient days of chivalry proud to consider him one of their own.
Although Fred must fly back across the pond to England, the story has a very happy ending that will cheer all readers, especially teens, with romance somewhere in their souls. Even better, some of the action involves baseball and a record-setting home run.

Any way have fun over the holiday weekend, I will be back on Monday with pictures from the festival as well as hopefully some of our new pet.

Paper Back Writer - a laugh, a joke and an English accent

It has been another long week with so much going on that a recap of everything might even help me get to grips with all that has gone on.

The week started with a really enjoyable radio interview with Sarah, better known at "GREENBEANTEENQUEEN"

A fun Saturday nights Karaokee followed (do you think the word fun is a main stay of my bloggs lol)

Sunday night at 11:30pm I am a guest on "Before bedtime" it was the hosts first show and I was able to help him along and sort out a few technical hitches as well as... you've guest it... having fun.

Monday I heard from my publisher that owing to the success of "Across the pond" they were going to set up a sale or return for the book. This is not common with a POD book, and is one of the reasons that POD's are not common in bookstores. This set up will not only mean that I can now push the book in all the stores and supermarkets, but I will get royalties for orders placed, not items sold. That should really help.
So spread the word, the new launch or is it re-launch date is June 1st.

I also had Zoe from "Zoe Reads Books" as my blog guest.

Wednesday I had yet another really enjoyable "Book and Chat" this time with writer and former soap star and Emmy award winning actress "Louise Shaffer". You can catch up all of these interviews and join in the fun (there it goes again) at my radio or blog spot.

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Across-the-Pond

Thursday I made the trip to Central Connecticut University, where I was a guest. Again an entertaining thirty minutes which the recording engineer stated as one of the best shows they have recorded.

Friday and working on a possible way to help authors set up web sites, with emails and blogs for not a lot of money... More to come on that later.

Also through the week I have been lucky enough to receive another FIVE reviews at Amazon, taking my total up to 73 just at Amazon and to over a hundred in all since the book came out last October.

Amazon Reviews

So all in all it's been a great week regarding my book, writing, guests, radio shows, interviews and all things regarding writing and of course it was a huge amount of fun.
