A Book and a Chat with Kritin Walker

Over the last year and 120 shows I've had guests both authors and bloggers discussing all kinds of subjects and genres. Sometimes from the information you glean about the guest that day you just know that the show will be fun, not that they all aren't its just sometimes you get that feeling that a large amount of laughter will fill the show. Today was one of those shows.

My special guest on today's "A Book and a Chat" was writer, actress, lifeguard, ballroom dance instructor and much more, Kristin Walker author of "A Match Made in High School".

Making her creative way through short stories and picture books, this is Kristin's first published book (launched February 4th 2010), and one that has been much looked forward to my the YA readers.

"A Match Made in High School" is a story full of sweetness tempered with sarcasm, the book is the perfect teen romance. Laugh-out-loud funny, unpredictable, and fresh, one you won't want to miss.

The show as expected proved a great chat filled with knowledge, cometary and laughter. We learned much about Kristin and her book, even to what to do with a dirty sock. How she was obsessed with the "Little House on the Prairie", or being part of Edwardian England in the vain of Mary Poppins, or "Up Stairs Down Stairs". How as a Tenner and a former Deb has been one of the most rewarding things by far, providing her the opportunity to become friends with so many incredibly talented authors.

A Few Days Off and a Great Review

I am having a few days off from blogging, only because I will be appearing at the Submarine Festival at Groton CT for the next couple of days. It will be my first big event and I am looking forward to announcing to all colonials on July 4th that the English are back. Well my book is *grin*.

This also means I will not be hosting Saturdays Book and a Chat Radio Show.
I am pretty book for guests until about mid September but am always on the look out for anybody who wants to have a chat on a Tuesday or Saturday. I am also looking for bloggers who would like to be interviewed for my Monday Special Guest spot. If so please let me know via comment or email.

This is an excellent romance for teens, even though I am decades beyond the days when the first digit of my age was a one; I was so hooked on the story that I completed it within four hours of receiving it. Fifteen-year-old Frederick (Fred) Squire is a British lad whose parents are taking off to Australia to enjoy a vacation. Fred is spending that time with an American family, a prospect he questions until he meets their daughter Brittany. It is close to teen love at first sight and that begins an adventure having many aspects as Fred struggles to learn American ways. One of his problems is the terminology, for example to him the back of a car is a "boot" rather than the "trunk."
The greatest problems are his relationships with others and dealing with the local bully, a thug named Steve Harris, a boy whose acts include being a serial sexual harasser. Brittany is one of Steve's victims, so she is terrified of him, a problem that Fred helps calm, although calm does not describe the action between Fred and Steve. In true white knight fashion, Fred physically faces Steve down in a manner that would have made the knights of the ancient days of chivalry proud to consider him one of their own.
Although Fred must fly back across the pond to England, the story has a very happy ending that will cheer all readers, especially teens, with romance somewhere in their souls. Even better, some of the action involves baseball and a record-setting home run.

How long have you been blogging?

I started blogging on October 6, 2008.

What books do you read?

I read mostly Young Adult books. Sometimes I read poetry and a bit of classic books.

What is your favorite book and author of 2009 and favorite book?

The book I read in 2009 that I liked the most was probably FADE by Lisa McMann. I can't really choose my favorite author 2009, because there are so many!

What is your favorite author/book of all time?

My all time favorite book is Paper Towns by John Green.

How many books do you have in your library?

Wow... I know I have a lot. I think I have around 500 or something.

How many books do you read a week?

I read about 7. Sometimes more and sometimes less.

Not counting yours, what is your favorite blog to follow?

Really? Umm, I don't know. There are so many blogs. Every blogger is lovely, and so are there blogs. I think all the blogs I follow are tied for my favorite.

When is your favorite time/location to read?

I like to read late at night. As for location, I either read in bed or on a couch in my house that is under a window.

If you could be a character in any book who would that be and why?

If I were to be any character in a book, once again, I don't know who I would be. I have read a lot of books, and there were wonderful characters in those books. Which makes it impossible to choose.

Have you ever thought about or actually written a book yourself?

I am actually in the middle of writing my second novel.

If you had a chance to advertise your blog in any way you could what would you chose and why?

I wouldn't choose to advertise my blog. I believe that people should find my blog by either word of mouth or them searching something and finding it on their own.

What is one thing about you that readers might not know?

Some readers might not know, that, when I was younger, I didn't really enjoy reading.

TEEN/YA BLOGGERS RULE

Anybody who has listened to my radio/tv broadcasts or read some of my previous blogs will know that I am a great fan of what I call the "small bloggers", that is small is followers not in stature or content.

These diligent readers are the ones who know, purchase and review teen/ya books. Like me, many authors I have interviewed on my blog radio program "A Book and a Chat" have nothing but praise for this great and ever increasing group of people. Their news and views might be followed by a few as a ten people while other sites the readers are into the hundreds. No matter how large a following they have the information they share day after day can do nothing but encourage young and young at heart readers to pick up a book and read.

Now one site is holding a "PEOPLE'S CHOICE YA BOOK BLOG AWARDS".

"Hey, Teenager of the Year" web site has almost 80 entries, in true Hollywood tradition, broken down into various sections.

Across the Pond Latest Review:

I received this today, and once again am just grateful for the people who take time to review my book.

Across the Pond is a sweet tale of young love and discovery. I honestly could not put this down! I opened the book and was drawn into this story like never before! The book is intended for young adult readers but I was amazed to find myself completely devouring this novel in less than a day! Amazing book and talented writer!
